Mesothelioma is a rare and virulent form of cancer that affects the linings of the lung cavity, abdominal or lining of the heart. Mesothelioma is caused by exposure to asbestos and affects people who have inhaled asbestos fibers, in many cases, even 20-50 years ago. Some people have been exposed at work, others through a secondary family members who unwittingly brought home deposited fibers on work clothes or hair or skin.

Although the nature of this disease is severe, there is some hope. Each year, doctors and scientists worldwide are developing new therapies and new discoveries that help improve the chances of survival and quality of life of patients.
